Group Life Reinsurance Facility

The Group Life Reinsurance Facility (GLRF) can provide reinsurance and support for start-up operations or for insurers who are already providing group term life and accidental death benefits.

Portfolio and Facultative Excess of Loss Reinsurance

GLRF offers reinsurance options to companies with established life portfolios that want to limit their exposure on the entire portfolio. Such reinsurance arrangements are appropriate when the amount of surplus that can be allocated to this line of business is a concern, but the insurer is otherwise comfortable with the risk associated with the product line.

Excess Reinsurance

Automatic Excess Reinsurance treaties are available to companies that need protection from risk severity resulting from large claims. Excess reinsurance is important to the insurer that wants to offer higher limit contracts but does not have sufficient size to withstand adverse experience fluctuations that can result from large, individual claims.

Facultative Reinsurance

Facultative Reinsurance arrangements are available when a potential client falls outside the normal underwriting rules of the insurer, but the risk can be priced to produce a profit. Facultative reinsurance is also appropriate in situations where the insurer does not have the capacity to allocate sufficient surplus to the risk due to its size.
